Near or Far: the Mobile Education Unit travels to the most isolated villages to teach conservation
The Mobile Education Unit (MEU) delivers a programme of conservation education into an increasing number of schools in the Jambi and Riau provinces bordering the Bukit Tigapuluh National Park. These schools may be substantial urban schools or rural classrooms in villages that can only be reached by trekking in on foot and crossing when the river is not in flood.
The MEU Team works directly with teachers to schedule times and tailor classes to the educational level of the students, who broadly range in age from 5 - 15 years old. A typical class for younger children will involve stories, quizzes, short films and other activities with an emphasis on active engagement.
