The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry gives the go-ahead for a Conservation Concession for the protection of the critically endangered Sumatran orangutans.

Funded by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, the KfW will provide 39,000 hectares of tropical rainforest in Bukit Tigapuluh in central Sumatra for the reintroduction of orangutans into their natural habitat.

Project director Dr Peter Pratje is euphoric: „The now granted conservation concession provides additional habitat for more than 300 orangutans."
